CARLSBAD, N.M.—Joyce Marie Jameson, 94, of E. Derrick Rd., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, in Katy, Texas with family. A viewing was held Thursday, September 28, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Denton-Wood Funeral Home, 1001 N. Canal Street, Carlsbad, N.M. 88220. Funeral services were planned for Friday, September 29, 2023 at 10 a.m. in the Denton-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery.

Joyce was born on January 2, 1929, in Matador, Texas, to Elmer Andrew Jackson and Ophelia Mae (Plumlee) Jackson. She spent her earlier years living on different ranches in West Texas on which her father worked at driving trucks.

Joyce married John Olin Jameson on July 3, 1948. Together they had eight children, four boys and four girls. They moved to New Mexico in the early 1950s with a growing family. They first lived in Lovington, N.M., before making Carlsbad their home after John was hired at the growing potash mines. Joyce was a homemaker and caregiver for her eight children, but often took in jobs ironing and babysitting for others, something she continued to do throughout most of her adult life. She also worked at the KOA campground for many years, cleaning. Joyce wasn’t the best at showing love and affection, but she would never let anyone go without anything they needed. She always had a piece of hard candy or gum in her purse, or a burrito in the freezer for anyone in need.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Elmer Jackson; mother, Ophelia “Jackie” Jackson; brothers Dale Newton Jackson and Jerry Andrew Jackson; and twin great-granddaughters, Kaydence Leighann and Kaylee Dawn Jameson.

Joyce is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Rivers of San Angelo, Texas; her children, Jackie Jameson, Sr. of Carlsbad, Johnny Jameson of Edgewood, N.M., Ann Jameson of Amarillo, Texas, Ellen Gouge (John) of Amarillo, Texas, Aleta Baker of Waco, Texas, David Jameson (Millie) of Carlsbad, Beverly Jameson of Carlsbad and Paul Jameson (Iraida) of Katy, Texas. She is survived by her grandchildren, Sherry Jameson, Jackie Jameson, Jr., Tina Rogers, John N. Jameson, Jr., Derrick Jameson, Tanya Dickerson, Kimberly Cleveland, Michael Dickerson, Stephanie Gouge Chaney, Natalie Gouge, Richard Baker, Jr., Shannon Stewart, Jeremy Baker, Jennifer Ginanni, Eric Jameson, James Jameson, Chelsey Buchanan, Heather Jameson, Jody Jameson, Amber Spillman and Fredy Graciani. She is also survived by 39 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.
