Two Patriots running all the way to State Cross Country

by Coach Greg Ramsey

The region 1 cross country meet was held this past Saturday at Mae Simmons park in Lubbock, Texas. Valley had runners in both the girls’ and boys’ division.

Lana Belmares was running for the Lady Patriots. The girls’ race had over 150 entries, and Lana placed 7th to advance to the State Cross-Country meet! Lana is a freshman at Valley High School, and this is a tremendous accomplishment for this young lady. Lana works very hard at this sport and puts in a lot of individual time, in addition to her practice at school. She ran her best race of the year, on the biggest stage, to advance to the State Meet.

In the boy’s division, Valley had a team consisting of Jake Merrell, Branson Cruse, Jed Day, Juan Villarreal, and Braydon Smith competing. Jake Merrell finished in 3rd place to advance to the State Meet for the second consecutive year. This is also an outstanding accomplishment for this young man, as he shuffles his training regime around football, and the many other things he is involved in.

Great job Valley runners and congratulations to Lana and Jake! Good luck at state!
