PANHANDLE-PLAINS HISTORICAL MUSEUM PRESENTS A
NEW CEMETERY TOUR AT DREAMLAND CEMETERY
CANYON, TEXAS— The Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and Dreamland Cemetery Association will be hosting a Cemetery Walking Tour at Dreamland on Saturday, March 25th from 3:00 to 6:00pm. Participants will learn about the cemetery’s history, architecture, monuments, and hear the stories of people and places from the Panhandle’s past.
More than a dozen pioneering residents of Canyon will be featured on the walking tour. Professional wrestler, Dory Funk, as told by his son Terry Funk will be included as well as second president of West Texas A&M University, J.A. Hill. In conjunction with our Great War exhibitions at PPHM we will be featuring two WWI veterans, Ray C. Campbell and Thomas Knighton. In addition, hear the stories of Hattie Anderson, founder of PPHM, and Margaret Harper, founder of The Musical Drama TEXAS. This walking tour is an educational opportunity to learn about the stories of the panhandle and discover what life was like as far back as 1891.
The Dreamland Walking Tour is a collaborative effort between PPHM and the Dreamland Cemetery Association. This is a free, come and go event. Dreamland Cemetery is located at 26500 US-87, Canyon, TX. Please enter through the gates on Cemetery Road and wear comfortable shoes.
