Jerry Owen Edwards
Jerry Owen Edwards was born in Turkey on June 2, 1935, and passed from this life on April 6, 2017. A celebration of his life will be held in the Hope Center in Quitaque on April 9, 2017 at 2pm, with Jerry Edwards officiating.
Jerry married Ruby Shacklett in 1969, and they had a son, Jerry Owen Edwards, Jr.
He was a cowboy who worked on most of the large ranches in the area, training horses. He won awards for cowboying in the Old Settlers rodeos, and was known as a man with a heart of gold. Jerry served two tours in the Army, in the same company as Elvis Presley, travelling to Germany and back with him, before returning to his home town to continue training horses and working ranches.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Olene Edwards, of Turkey; his son, Jerry Edwards, Jr.; and a brother, Bruce Edwards.
Those left to cherish his memory are his step-children, Christi and Jimmie; his grand-children and step-grandchildren, Stacie and Jacob, Heath and Clayton, and Ashley and Marley; a great-granddaughter Adalynn; numerous nieces and nephews; two brothers, Jearl of Amarillo, and Bobby, of Turkey; and five sisters, Christine, of Quitaque, Nelta, of Plainview, Kay, of Turkey, Rita, of Chandler, OK, and Anita, of Silverton.
