Ernestine Amanda Wilson
A memorial service for Ernestine Amanda Wilson, 85, of Paducah, at 2pm on Tuesday, August 29, at the Church of Christ in Paducah, with Leo Schumpert officiating under the direction of Zapata Funeral Home.
Ernestine Amanda Wilson lived her life to the fullest as a daughter, wife, mother, aunt, grandma, teacher, friend, and Christian example to the world around her.
Ernestine was born on December 5, 1931 in Spur, Texas to Schuyler and Stella Boothe. Spur was her home until age 17, when her family moved to Paducah. She graduated from Paducah High School.
June 6, 1952, Grover and Ernestine Wilson were married in her parents’ home in Paducah. They lived in both Puerto Rico and Fort Worth before coming back to Swearingen to farm and raise their family.
She attended Abilene Christian College and later graduated from Midwestern State University. One of her greatest passions was teaching children, both her own and countless others of the community. She taught in the Paducah schools until her retirement.
Her children are Richard and Kay Wilson of Waco, Sharon and Mark Thompson of Sugar Land, Gaylon and Karen Wilson of Possum Kingdom Lake, and Sheila and John Slaughter of Ranger. Her grandchildren are Tabatha Wilson, Amanda and Brandon Lengefeld, Candice and Jason Eddington, Lauren and Garrett Oden, Ashley Slaughter, and Lyndsey Slaughter. Her great-grandchildren are Judson and Abbie Mae Eddington. Her sister and brother-in-law are Lucy and Pat Phelps of Wichita Falls. Ernestine was also loved by many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Paducah Cemetery.
