Bob Wills Day to feature fan favorites and a few surprises

Are you ready for a weekend of great music, yummy food, and fun crafts? The last weekend in April, in Turkey, never disappoints. The Annual Bob Wills Celebration is promising to be a good one, with lots of old favorites, and plenty of new things, too!

Thursday, April 26, the festivities kick off with the Bob Wills Legacy Night All-Star Salute to the Legends, featuring Sirius XM’s Dallas Wayne, Jason Roberts, Billy Mata, and a few other very special guests. The fun starts at 7pm at the Bob Wills Center (Old Turkey High School gym).

Friday will be a great time as well, with the Church of Western Swing Social, featuring “Headstone” for Henry Baker, from 2-5pm. Music will be by Ginny Mac and Friends, and there will be gourmet hot dogs, ice cream, and guided church tours. The Church of Western Swing band will be playing nightly from Thursday through Saturday in the evenings, as well. Also on Friday evening, enjoy the Friends of the Texas Playboys, Jason Roberts, and Billy Mata kicking off the night at 5:30pm, at the Bob Wills Center. Next up will be Jake Hooker and the Outsiders, from 9pm to midnight.

Be sure to get downtown Saturday morning for the parade, and then take your pick of several fun activities that day, including a BBQ lunch, Arts and Crafts, Museum shows, the Gospel Music Jamboree, and more!

Saturday afternoon features a FREE outdoor concert at the old football field (beside the Bob Wills Center), where you will get to hear the Friends of the Texas Playboys, with special guests: Former Texas Playboy Leon Rausch, Billy Mata, Texas Fiddleman Jason Roberts, and local fan-favorite Jimmy Burson! The Old Fiddlers Contest will also be held on Saturday afternoon, for those fiddling fans.

There will be antique shops and junk stores open all over town, and don’t forget to go pick up a souvenir at the Bob Wills Center. There will be Lawn Mower Races and Pulls (keep an eye on the Caprock Courier in the coming weeks for specific day/time), and lots more!
