Come join in all the fun activities at Caprock Canyons State Park during the month of July!

 

July 7:

Birding 101 at 8:30am: Join us to learn the basics of birding at our wildlife viewing blind. Please bring binoculars!

Native American Games at 2pm: Join us for some games played the Native American way. Learn about the different types of games that Native Americans played, including games of chance and skill. Then, make some of your own to take home. Program is designed for children 12 and under.

The Dirt Storm Drifters Band at 7:30pm: Drift on over to Caprock to hear a mixture of some good music! The Dirt Storm Drifters will have you tapping your foot to a mixture of folk, country, and Americana with a little bit of rock stirred in for spice! This event is FREE with your paid park entrance fee.

 

July 21:

The Texas State Bison Herd at 9pm: Learn all about the official bison herd of the state of Texas by joining us for this slide-show presentation. We will discuss the unique history and genetics of this historic herd. Please bring a flashlight as it will be dark after the program

 

Special programs this month are the summer “Bat Tours” which will be held every Friday this month. Clarity Tunnel, an abandoned railway tunnel on the Caprock Canyons Trailway, is home to up to half a million Mexican Free-tailed bats each summer. During these guided vehicle tours along the Trailway, visitors will view the bat emergence flight and enjoy spectacular views of the rugged and beautiful breaks of the Llano Estacado. Tours begin 1.5 hours before sunset each evening and take about 3 hours to complete. Please call (806) 455-1492 for reservations and for more information. There is limited availability for each tour, so be sure to reserve your spot. Tours fill up quickly!

Park admission: Adults are $3, Seniors are $2, and children (12 and under) get in for free! Camping is available, along with hiking, biking, fishing, and many other outdoor and recreational opportunities. All programs are free with paid park entrance fee.
