Shirlene Carol Sanders passed away June 25, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 81.

She was born near Brice Texas January 9, 1937 to the late William and Aline Durham. She married the love of her life, Glenn Sanders, July 21, 1954.

Shirlene worked many jobs throughout her life, including owning and operating the Afton Grocery where she cooked and served many meals to the bustling community of Afton in the late seventies. She later served on the Volunteer Fire Department and City Council of Lorraine, TX.

Shirlene’s greatest love was for her family.  She willingly quit school in her early teens to help raise her siblings. She was very proud to earn her GED later in her adult life. She continued her love for her family after her marriage. She supported her husband, children and grandchildren unconditionally. She had a very strong faith and instilled that in her children and grandchildren. Shirlene was a great mom and grandmother who loved reading, games, crafts and sharing with others. She was greatly involved in her grandchildren’s lives and left them with many precious memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings; Geraldine Brucker, Bill Durham, Ronney Durham; her granddaughter Adonna Sanders and grandson Nickie Hale.

Survived by her children, Carolyn Hale and husband Mitchell of Afton, TX; Sandy Vickrey and husband Buster of Afton, TX, Phillip Sanders and wife Stephanie of Seminole, TX, Sister, Debbie McCown of Borger, TX. Brother; Pete Durham of Amarillo, TX. Grandchildren; Heather Fine and husband Chad, Casey Vickrey and wife Michelle, Amber Schorsch and husband Kendall, Justin Sanders and Andrew Sanders. Eleven greatgrandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held 2 pm on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Roaring Springs, TX. Visitation was at the church from 12:30 to 1:45 on the day of the services. Family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
