Motley-Dickens Counties Reunion & Rodeo Set for August 23-25, 2018
The 95th annual Old Settlers Reunion and Rodeo begins Thursday, August 23, in Roaring Springs, Texas, with free admission to the rodeo grounds all day. Concessions will be available on the grounds.
A business meeting will be held at 3:00 pm in the Tabernacle. Arena events begin with Books Open at 4:30 pm and events beginning at 5:00 pm. All winners will receive a Ranger Buckle Set by Clint Martin. The Cutting entry fee is $150.00.
A Flag Race for 6 years and under is $5.00 entry fee; and 7-9 years is $10.00. Entrants in an Open Age Barrel Race with an Entry Fee of $20 will win a buckle prize.
Junior Team Roping for 18 years and under with an entry fee of $50 per team will participate in a Round Robin. Motley-Dickens Counties Team Roping with an Entry Fee of $150 will begin with a draw for four partners.
Admission to the Rodeo Grounds on Friday, August 25, and Saturday, August 26, is $10.00; 12 years and under are free. On Friday, the Ranch Horse Association of America (RHAA) competition will Open at 8:00 am, with competition beginning at 9:00 am. Entry fee is $175.00. Five classes of entrants will include Wrangler, Cowboy, Ranch Hand (to be determined), and Junior and Senior Classes. For the second year, the Horse and Float parade has been moved from Thursday to Saturday, beginning at 10:00 am. Following the parade, a Memorial Service will be held in the Tabernacle at 11:00 am. Bingo will be offered from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Tabernacle at $5.00 a card.
Ongoing events include a Washer Pitching Contest at 1:00 pm; Kid’s Snapping Turtle Races begin at 2:00 pm with $25.00 awarded in each division of zero-to-4 years; 5-9 years; and 10-12 years. Goat Roping books open at 10:00 am.
The Number 11 Team Roping entry fee is $80.00 – no cap, four head, progressive after one. Books Open at 12:00 pm.
Other Friday and Saturday events include Junior Flag Race during the Rodeo for 12 years old and under each day. Entry fee is $20. A buckle will be awarded for both nights. Limit 10 participants.
Also, Mutton Busting Friday and Saturday during the Rodeo for 12 years old and under. Entry fee is $20. One buckle awarded for both nights. Limit 10.
New this year is the Junior Shetland Bronc Riding on Friday and Saturday during the Rodeo, for 12 years old and under. Entry fee is $75.00. One buckle is awarded for both nights. Limit six.
The Ranch Rodeo Invitational will begin at 7:00 pm both Friday and Saturday. (Contact Douglas Campbell at 806-269-2659). Events will include Bronc Riding, Wild Cow Milking, Team Doctoring, Calf Branding, and Team Sorting. Teams will consist of 4-to-6 members; four monies will be paid. Five members of the Winning Team will receive awards – bits to Top Hand and Top Horse.
Further, a drawing for handmade prizes will be held on Saturday during the Rodeo. First place, spurs by Matt Humphries; 2nd place, Ranger Buckles made by Clint Martin; 3rd Place, Trinket by Matt Humphries. Tickets are $5.00 each or 5 tickets for $20.00.
The Chad Maines Band will play for Free Old Folk’s Dances from 5:00 to 7:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. Jody Nix and the Texas Cowboys will play for a Friday and Saturday Dance from 9:00 to ?. Cost for the dance is $10.00.
