Zenobia “Zobie” Sue Self
Zenobia Sue Self, age 78 of Silverton, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018. Graveside services were Sunday, December 30, 2018 at the Silverton Cemetery. Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore Rose Funeral Home.
On January 21, 1940 a little lady (she weighed almost 12 pounds) was born to Mart and Juanita Self. Mart named her Zenobia (later called Zobie).
Mart said that the youngest (Zobie) had to go to college to make up for the deficiencies of not having attended Haylake school.
In 1958 she entered college and became a teacher/librarian/college professor. She taught at Silverton, Petersburg, and Wayland University. To augment her education Zobie traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. She received her BA degree from Wayland, Masters degree at West Texas State, and her librarian degree at East Texas State in Commerce. In the mid-70’s, she and Mart began the practice of farming together. Zobie lived in the Self farm house with Baby the wonder dog. After the death of her parents, she had the house renovated, keeping as much of the original configuration as possible. Each night when she and Baby retired, they would go to bed in the same room where she was born.
Zobie was preceded in death by her parents Mart and Juanita Self, two brothers J.L. and Bill. Two sisters Delma and Deal. And the wonder dog Baby.
She is survived by her sister Lou Younger of Silverton, cousin Tobe Riddle of Silverton and cousin Jane Brooks of Amarillo and many nieces and nephews.
