Pheasant Season Opens December 7
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Biologists just finished the annual Ring-Necked Pheasant Roadside Count Surveys. These surveys are conducted October 15-November 15 and consist of driving 44 – 20 mile routes throughout the Texas Panhandle High Plains. This year we counted an average of 2.94 pheasants per route, slightly better than last years’ count of 1.41 pheasants per route, but it seems we still have not recovered from the drought of 2011, prior to that, in 2010 we saw 27.45 pheasants per route. One route in Ochiltree County counted 22 birds this year, that was the highest number observed on any of the routes. Pheasant season runs opens, Saturday, December 7 and will close January 5, 2021.
