HD68 special election set for Jan. 23
COMPILED FROM MEDIA REPORTS
Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley (R) announced this week he would seek the seat being vacated by Senator-elect Drew Springer (R-Muenster). Brinkley’s announcement also served as his resignation, which was triggered by the constitutional resign-to-run provision. He was first elected to the post in 2014, having previously served as a Cooke Co. justice of the peace.
Former Jack County Commissioner John Berry (R) joined Brinkley in announcing his candidacy. Berry served as Precinct 1 Commissioner from 2017 to 2018, fulfilling an unexpired term. A certified financial planner with more than 25 years in the financial services industry, Berry has owned Corner Post Financial Planning for nearly 15 years.
Another candidate from Jacksboro has filed to run in the HD 68 special election. Attorney David Spiller, who has been a member of the Jacksboro ISD board for 26 years, announced his candidacy on Tuesday. Spiller has served as city attorney for the City of Jacksboro for 33 years and as general counsel to the Jack County Hospital District for 30 years.
Spiller is in private practice with his two sons, and previously practiced with his father and brother.
