Generation after generation, those with roots in Briscoe County have come together the first weekend in August to celebrate and commemorate their community and heritage in the county’s annual Celebration and Rodeo.

Festivities for the 129th Celebration are quickly coming together by now. Events include a ranch rodeo featuring four- or five-man teams engaged in wild cow milking, doctoring, branding and stray gathering.

Sponsored by the Briscoe County Boosters, the ranch rodeo will showcase 10 teams on Friday, Aug. 6 and 10 teams on Saturday, Aug. 7. Teams interested in competing should contact Brooke Burson at (806) 241-0099.

Tickets are already being sold for a raffle for a John Deere Z345R zero-turn riding mower, provided by the Briscoe County Boosters, that will be given away Saturday night at the ranch rodeo. Tickets can be purchased at Happy State Bank or from a Briscoe County Booster member.

Hundreds of visitors are expected to come to the 129th Celebration, and the festivities provide an ideal venue for vendors to market their goods and services. Those who would like to reserve a booth or space around the courthouse square in Silverton for Saturday should call Ciera Patino (after 4 p.m.) at (806) 847-7009.

The parade will be held Saturday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. Those interested in having a float, vehicle or horses in the parade should arrive at the rodeo grounds at 9:45 a.m.

The 7th Annual Briscoe County Celebration Car Show will also be held on Saturday. Any and all kinds of cars are welcome to participate and compete for cash prizes, and a grand prize winner’s plaque. For more information, contact Rick Minyard at (806) 847-7042.

Saturday night after the ranch rodeo will be a very special concert and dancing featuring Jason Nutt and Highway 70.

An independent country band hailing originally from the greater Floyd County area, Jason Nutt and Highway 70 formed in 2008. They have released two full-length albums, an EP and two singles.

A few artists they have shared the stage with include Casey Donahew, William Clark Green, Aaron Watson, Pat Green, Cory Morrow, Shooter Jennings, Adam Hood, Matt Martindale, Josh Grider, John Bauman, Randall King, Johnny Rodriguez, Chancey Williams, Kody West, Kyle Park, Chris Colston and Bart Crow.
