Autumn is a good time to get that left-over, touch-up pruning done.

One of the first rule in pruning is to always remove dead, broken, and diseased wood, no matter the time of year. Living tissue and dead wood can easily be distinguished before leaves drop in the fall. Living wood has leaves and dead wood is bare.
