In 2019, as a sophomore, Motley County’s Jake Richards set the state single-season rushing record with 4,081 yards during the Matadors’ run to the Class 1A Division II state championship football game.
In 2020 a year turned topsyturvy by a pandemic became even more complicated for the Mats when injury came to their star running back, and he missed six games last year.
