1932–2023
Awill Lee Clay, age 91, of Silverton, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Silverton, with G.J. Walton and Larry Hood officiating. Interment followed at the Silverton Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Silverton. Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
Lee was born June 1, 1932 in Tatum, New Mexico, to Thompson and Ellie (Dunham) Clay. He graduated from high school in Hart, Texas, in 1952. Lee met Ada Price and they were married in Clovis, New Mexico, on December 20, 1952. They spent 56 years together before she preceded him in death on April 10, 2008. Lee then met and married Betty Stephens on January 13, 2011 in Silverton, Texas. He worked as a lineman for SPS and Excel Energy, eventually becoming Manager of Excel Energy. Lee was a member of the First Baptist Church in Silverton and served on the Lay Renewal Team. He was also a member of the Silverton Lions Club. When Lee wasn’t working or serving his church, he also enjoyed outside activities like fishing, camping and traveling.
Those left to cherish Lee’s memory are his wife, Betty Ann Clay; his children, Ricky Clay and his wife, Dosha, Randy Clay and his wife, Kelley, and Ramona Cradock and her husband, Curtiss; his bonus family, Larry B. Hood and his wife, Tam, Stephen Stephens, Christina Barker and her husband, Trevor, and Jeannita Ellison; as well as six grandchildren and ten greatgrandchildren, 10 bonus grandchildren and 9 bonus great-grandchildren.
