Around 5 p.m. on July 4, a Matador resident saw a lightning strike about 11 miles west of town. He reported seeing smoke in a pasture, and Matador, Floydada and Dougherty Volunteer Fire Departments quickly responded to hose down the edges of the fast-moving fire.
