The earthly remains of Kenneth Brook Baldwin returned to his family at the East Mound Cemetery in Motley County on October 15, 2024, to be buried among his George kinfolk of Flomot, Texas. Accompanying his widow, Anita Tooley Baldwin, with his ashes was an entourage from their hometown of Sherman, Texas. Members of the Baldwins’ spiritual home, Grace Bible Church, presided over a short memorial and the burial.
Born on January 13, 1930, toWilliamWallaceandZada Rae George Baldwin, Kenneth passed away on February 5, 2024. He and Anita were married on November 22, 1955, and enjoyed 68 years of teaching, travelling, and appreciating the arts. The couple once made their home at the George homestead nearFlomot,butSanta Fe, New Mexico, was their home for 35 years, before they moved to Sherman to be near Anita’s nieces.
A graduate of Flomot High School, Baldwin earned a B.S. in education from Wayland Baptist College and a Master of Basic Science from the University of Colorado. He taught high school in Clovis, N.M., and Boulder, Colorado. While serving four years in the United States Air Force, he attended the Army Language School learning Russian. He spent 18 months in Tripoli, Libya, translating radio messages from Russian to English.
Kenneth was the family historian, having compiled “La Placita, The House We Called Home,” his recollections of growing up among the Benjamin Calvin and Carrie Orr George family. A copy is in the Motley County Museum where Kenneth donated it several years ago. Officiating at the graveside services from Grace Bible Church were Pastor George Cline with his wife, Mona, and Assistant Pastor Jerry Neuston with his wife, Linda.
