Millard Daniel (Salt) Jones, 72, passed away on October 1, 2025, at his home in Mississippi. Salt was born on May 27, 1953, in Sweetwater, Texas, to Annie Layman Jones and Millard Crabill (Salty) Jones. Following a move to Flomot, Texas, in 1960, the family settled in Quitaque, Texas, in 1967.
Salt graduated from Quitaque High School in 1971. After two years at Clarendon Junior College, Salt transferred to East Texas Baptist College in Marshall, where he graduated in 1976. In 1981, he completed the Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth.
While in seminary, he served as Minister of Youth at Memorial Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas, from 19791981. From 1983-1985, he was Associate Pastor to Students at First Baptist Church of Plainview, Texas.
In 1985, Salt was commissioned as an international missionary through the International Mission Board (IMB) of the Southern Baptist Convention. From 1985 to 1989, he served as a missionary in Taiwan, working in student evangelism. In 1991, Salt married IMB missionary Susan Puckett, from Columbus, Mississippi.
Salt and Susan served from 1991 to 1999 as IMB missionaries in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, working in campus evangelism at the University of British Columbia and in English church planting. After relocating in 1999 to Calgary, Alberta, Salt served the Canadian National Baptist Convention as the National Team Leader for Student Ministry and as the National Team Leader for Missions. In addition, he supervised IMB personnel in Canada and partnered with Susan in Chinese church planting.
After Salt and Susan retired, they made their home in Lubbock, Texas, from 2017 to 2024. While there, Salt provided care for his mother, worked on the family ranch, and ministered through the International Christian Fellowship. In 2024, the couple relocated to Amory, Mississippi.
Salt is survived by his wife, Susan Puckett Jones; mother, Ann Jones Chadwick; brother Teddy Rea (Pepper) Jones and wife, Marla; sister Mary Jane (Candy) Jones Kern and husband, Michael; niece Holly Kern Thomas and husband, Ryan; two nephews, Steven Kern and Ben Kern; great nephew Logan Thomas; and numerous extended family members. Salt was preceded in death by his father, Millard Crabill Jones.
A celebration of Salt’s life will be held on November 8, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Quitaque, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to support missions through First Baptist Church Quitaque, Flomot Baptist Church or the International Mission Board (IMB.org).
