Body

Dorothy Ann Turner, 94, of Medina, Texas, formerly a longtime resident of Matador, Texas, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 29, 2025. Dorothy was born September 1, 1931, in Matador, Texas, to H. O. (Herman) Stanfield and Edna Stanfield.

Dorothy Turner graduated from Matador High School in 1948. She married Richard Turner of Flomot, Texas, on May 14, 1949. They shared a long, wonderful marriage together until Richard’s death on November 24, 2018.

Dorothy loved the Lord, and she and Richard attended Matador First Baptist Church, where she sang in the Choir for many years.

Dorothy started working as one of the original “Hello Girls” telephone switch operator connecting two people who wanted to talk. She then worked as a receptionist and bookkeeper at West Texas Utilities and then at the Higginbotham lumberyard in Matador. After this she worked as the superintendent’s secretary at Matador High School until her retirement.

Dorothy was a skilled seamstress and crafter. She loved making things for her children and grandchildren. She also loved nothing better than being with and caring for her family. Her family includes Rick and Jane Turner of Medina, Texas, and four grandchildren, Dana Bix (Greg Bix), Jacob Hatcher (Kristen Hatcher), Krista Jones-Turner (Tess Jones-Turner) and Ryan Turner; and eight great-grandchildren (Lauren Bix, Alex Bix, Abby Bix, Christian Hatcher, Caleb Hatcher, Ashlynn Hatcher, Hunter Hatcher and Serenity Hatcher).

Services for Dorothy are pending, but will be in Matador in the near future.
