SILVERTON—Elton Cantwell, age 88, passed away on November 15, 2021, in Floydada, Texas. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 20, 2021 at the Rock Creek Church of Christ in Silverton. Interment followed at the Silverton Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November, 19, 2021 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Visitation Parlor in Silverton. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
Elton was born in Silverton, Texas, on January 8, 1933 to Earl and Inetha (Montague) Cantwell. He married the love of his life, Lanita Lois (Fleming) Cantwell on July 1, 1953 in Austin, Texas. He was a lifelong cotton farmer, retiring in 1990. Some of his interests included classic cars, woodworking, and playing dominoes. He was part of the Studebaker Car Club, as well as a Mid-Plains Telephone Co-op board member from 1978 to 2020, and was named Briscoe County Pioneer of the Year in 2021. Most importantly, he was an elder at the Rock Creek Church of Christ.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lanita Cantwell, and his parents, Earl and Inetha Cantwell.
He is survived by his son, Roger Alan Cantwell and wife, Kellie, of Floydada, Texas; his daughters, Debra Ann Burk and husband, Mark, of Raton, N.M., Mary Chris Garcia of Waxahachie, Texas, and Brenda Gaskins and husband, Jack, of San Antonio, Texas; and his sister, Nina Martin of Grandview, Texas. Elton is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 14 greatgrandchildren.
