1926–2022
MATADOR—Horace R. “Skeet” Jameson, age 95, of Matador, passed away on February 28, 2022 in Lubbock. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 3, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Matador, and interment at East Mound Cemetery in Matador. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.
Horace R. “Skeet” Jameson was born December 13, 1926 in Whiteflat, Texas, the son of Robert (Bob) L. Jameson Jr. and Beulah (Stephens) Jameson. He graduated from Matador High School and served in the U.S Army in World War II. He married Earlyne Laughlin on March 24, 1949 in Matador. They were married almost 73 years.
Horace was involved in agriculture with farming and livestock operations. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, where he had served as a steward’s trustee and on the administration board. He was a former director on the Motley County Hospital board, the Farmers Home Administration, the National and County Farm Bureau, the County Tax Advisory and the ASC Farmers board of directors. The State Soil Conservation Service honored him for his service on the district board for 26 years. He served on the Motley County Bi-Centennial Executive Committee and the M.C. 75th Jubilee Commission. He was a member of the VFW Post 15045, the Southwestern Cattleman Association and the Quarter Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife, Earlyne Jameson of Matador, Texas; son Lance Jameson of Vernon, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Shannon and Bertha Jameson of Santa Fe, New Mexico; brother and sister-in-law, Clay and Melinda Jameson of Matador; along with an extended family of nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
