Johnny Bert Ezzell, 78, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on November 7, 2021 in Abilene.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. in the Family Room of University Church of Christ in Abilene. A private burial will take place at Elmwood Memorial Park prior to the memorial service.

Johnny was born on July 29, 1943 in Lompoc, California, to the late Bert and Lucille (Holmes) Ezzell. His family returned to their home in Matador, Texas, where he was raised and graduated high school in 1962. At the age of 6 Johnny was stricken with polio and was left with extreme limitations. During his childhood there were not many options available for someone with physical limitations; however, his resourceful parents used a lot of thought and creativity to ensure that he had a happy childhood.

After high school, Johnny’s mother relocated with him to Abilene so he could attend Abilene Christian College (now University), where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1967 and a master’s in 1974. He was a huge sports enthusiast and had great memory recall. His dream was to be a sports announcer. He was a member of University Church of Christ. He will be remembered for his, generosity to others, his opinions, and not allowing challenges to hold him back from living a full and happy life.

He was preceded in death by his devoted parents.

He is survived by his brother, Charles Ezzell, and his wife, Linda, of Abilene; three nephews, Dr. Steven Ezzell, his wife, Carin, and their sons, Andrew and Matthew of Abilene; Dr. Chad Ezzell, his wife, Lydia, and their sons, Brice and Cade of Abilene; and Brian Ezzell and his wife, Haylee, and their three children, Knox, Jenson and Cooper of Richardson, Texas.

The family would like to thank the staff of BrightPoint for their care to Johnny while he was a resident.
