Mickel Jay Norris was born on February 6, 1946 in Silverton, Texas. He died at home on February 3, 2025 in Silverton, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Annie (Vardell) Norris, and a son, Richard Ray.

Mike is survived by his wife, Diane; son Darrell and wife, April; daughter Andria Zahasky and husband, Andy; grandchildren Kobe, Ben, Kaylee, Emilee, Zoe, Isabella, Aiden, Avery and Oliver; and brother Ted Vardell.

He will be missed by his family, his many friends, and his faithful canine companion, Rascal.

A private memorial was held on what would have been his 79th birthday.

After high school, Mike was anxious to join the U.S. Army, where he served two and a half tours in Vietnam. After leaving the army, he settled in Amarillo, where he worked for the local sheriff’s department. He retired and moved to Port Aransas, where he worked with the Port Aransas Police Department. He retired again and moved back to Silverton, where he served on the Volunteer Fire Department and worked for the Silverton sheriff’s office.

Mike had incredible woodworking skills. He enjoyed scuba diving, four-wheeling, grilling, and spending time with family and friends.
