I was one of 12 kids and a enjoyed a wonderful childhood, growing up in the late ’40s and early ’50s. The center of activity in our old farmhouse was the kitchen, where a grand old cookstove stood. The fancy carved legs held it up off the floor, leaving a space where our big old tomcat, “Chubby” loved to sleep.

Television hadn’t yet reached our hollow, so people visited a lot then . . .and always s…
