Wildfire chances increasing across state

The risk for wildfires across the state has risen along with the hot and dry conditions, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

We finished Carolyn’s quilt, which was an antique that Calvin’s grandmother had made, and it turned out so beautiful and we were so happy to do it for them. We then got one put up to work on for Bobbye. We got a good start on it so we are glad to get another one put up.

New legislation to support local newsrooms and local advertisers has been introduced in the 118th Congress. The Community News & Small Business Support Act was introduced by Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (NY-24) and Congresswoman Suzan DelBene (WA-1), both members of the Ways and Means Committee.

COMMENTARY Ever hugged a chicken? Not me. I’ve caught a few. Does that count? My friend Beverly hugs her chickens routinely and whispers sweet nothin’s in their ears. Do chickens have ears? By contrast, my friend Sally (not her real name) has a deep-seated fear of and aversion to chickens.

Crunchy Peanut Butter Cookies

Flourless cookies seem to be sticking around. I’ve made my own versions of the peanut butter variety many times over the past few years. So I’m always trying to come up with a new way to make them, maybe with the addition of oats, raisins, or peanuts.

I missed quilting last week as I had a doctor’s appointment in Lubbock. I stayed a couple of nights with Donna, and she is not doing as well as we had hoped, but we hope the doctor can help her when she goes to see him this week.
