Wild about Texas plums

Body Prunus angustifolia. That’s not what the Indians called them. Me either. We’re talking Texas wild plums. They’re ripe now. I’d nominate wild plums to be the state fruit, but red grapefruit justifiably already holds that title. Love those Texas red grapefruit.

A casserole like fried squash

Body Yellow squash, crookneck squash, or summer squash all come in strong in west Texas. Our summer gardens typically yield plenty, just like the zucchini. I grew up on fried squash.

Body (AUSTIN) — Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar is reminding shoppers they can save money on clothes and school supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 6–8.

Workforce commission announces job surge

Body AUSTIN—The Texas Workforce Commission released June employment figures that showed Texas employers added nearly 56,000 jobs in June, while the unemployment rate dropped to 6.5%. “The Texas economy is booming,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement.
