We quilters are working on a quilt for Carolyn that Calvin’s grandmother pieced, I believe it is “Hearts and Gizzards.” It is very pretty and will be a cherished heirloom when finished.

SILVERTON SUMMER READING Twenty-two brave kids swam to the ocean floor last week at the Silverton Library to learn about whales and hear the story of Amos and Boris the whales. Afterwards, they each made their own Blue Whale to take home.

REMEMBRANCE OF LONG AGO—AND LAST WEEK In Roaring Springs July 1, neighbors gathered at the community’s memorial to share thanks for those who fought for the nation’s freedom. Bob Kilmer also remembered Motley County’s recent tornado victims and voiced appreciation for volunteers who came together to support Matador, even including strangers who had no ties to the town. Roaring Springs held its annual Independence Day bash on July 1, with plenty of family-friendly activities. The celebration started with a sentimental patriotic program in the Frank Mitchell Memorial Park. Shortly after, the highly anticipated parade got underway.
