Cap Rock improves fiber optic service in Guthrie

Body This spring, residents of Guthrie, seat of King County, saw a welcome sight out their front doors: service trucks of Cap Rock Telephone Co-operative, digging trenches and laying more miles of fiber optic cable for digital com munications access.

Valley wins State track championship

Body The Valley Patriots are Class 1A state track and field champions once again. Valley scored 51 points on Saturday to win the team championship by one point over second-place Cross Plains — marking the program’s first team title since going back-to-back in 2017 and 2018.

Body STATE MEDALISTS Silverton's Brenna Francis jumps to silver. Francis finished second in the Class 1A girls long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 1.25 inches. Guthrie's Coulter Reel jumped 36 feet, 3½ inches to earn bronze in the Class 1A girls event.

‘Texas Writes’ coming to Spur May 14

Body Texas Writes, a statewide program from the Writers’ League of Texas that brings accomplished authors to rural libraries for a half day focused on the craft of writing, will be in Spur Saturday, May 14 at 10 a.m. at the Dickens County-Spur Public Library.

Summer Reading to kick off at Motley County Library June 6

Body The Summer Reading program will kick off Monday, June 4 at the Motley County Library in Matador. Sessions will be held every Monday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon. There are lots of fun activities planned for each week. This year’s theme is “Oceans of Possibilities.
