Guthrie district runner-up in UIL Academics

Body Guthrie Common School District was the UIL Academic District Runner-up to Jayton in last week’s district UIL meet in Jayton. GCSD will advance 14 students for regional competition to be held at South Plains College in Levelland on April 22.

Body My sister and I left our family’s midtown Manhattan apartment in New York City on Jully 23, 1954, for an overnight bus trip to Niagara Falls. I was 18; Joyce was four days shy of 23.

FRIENDSHIP QUILTERS

Body The Silverton Senior Citizens had their monthly meeting Friday with a very nice crowd attending and we enjoyed a very good meal. We were glad to have Kathy May bring her portable organ, and she sang several cowboy songs.

Advisers cowed by dictators

Body It’s no wonder dictators don’t always do the right thing. They’re surrounded by yes men—plus some yes women. Nobody dares tell them they’re wrong. There I go, stereotyping dictators. Some no doubt listen to the counsel of those whose opinions differ from their own.

Soffritto: so good, and so good for you

Body Soffritto is a combination of onion, carrot, and celery. In Italy, soffritto is finely diced, uniformly. But it is very similar to the French version, called mirepoix, which is often diced a bit larger. The threesome is also referred to as the holy trinity by some.
