Muncy fire burns 400+ acres Sunday afternoon

A fast-moving fire broke out around 1 p.m. Sunday along the west side of U.S. 70 near Muncy, burning more than 400 acres and jumping the highway before being contained by eight local units around 6:30 that evening.

Since its founding in Dickens County in 2000, CrossView Camp has welcomed troubled youth for summer residential camp sessions each June and July. It’s one of the few such Christian camps in the country that provides scholarships to a majority of its campers, said development director Kassi Appleton.

According to an obituary posted on the website of Moore-Rose Funeral Home, the namesake of longtime Matador eatery Billie Dean’s Restaurant Billie Dean Smith passed away in Lubbock March 10, 2022 at age 93.

The Motley County Senior Citizens is open to serve meals inside or for carry out from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every weekday. Seating inside the center has been arranged to meet safety guidelines for dining 6 feet apart. Meal delivery is also available for seniors in Matador and Roaring Springs.
