Body Overheard In 1933, at the age of 11, I was a Girl Scout in Erie, Pennsylvania, and I had the privilege of taking part in the very first year of the National Girl Scout cookie sale. The price at the time was 15 cents for 12 sugar cookies and the only flavor offered.

Southwestern goulash a summer-season stew

Body Each spring and summer I feel challenged to cook and eat as many fresh, gorgeous, colorful vegetables I can get my hands on. But I still get hungry for thick, hearty concoctions to put on the table.

Rains replenish Caprock Country

Body Much-needed rains came last week to Caprock Country, but in some cases they came really fast and hard and brought hail as well. Golfball-sized hail in thunderstorms in nearby Tulia last Tuesday kicked off a series of rainstorms across Caprock Country last week.

Body HESTER RETIRES Briscoe County clerk Bena Hester retired recently after 30 years with Briscoe County. She started employment with the county in 1992 in the Extension office, then in 1995 became deputy county clerk, and in 1999 was elected county clerk of Briscoe County.
